{"id":47662,"date":"2019-08-06T11:09:06","date_gmt":"2019-08-06T16:09:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=47662"},"modified":"2019-08-06T11:09:09","modified_gmt":"2019-08-06T16:09:09","slug":"heres-how-prepping-can-save-you-money","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=47662","title":{"rendered":"Here\u2019s How Prepping Can SAVE You Money"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theorganicprepper.com\/heres-how-prepping-can-save-you-money\/\">Here\u2019s How Prepping Can SAVE You Money<\/a> <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the most common reasons that people give for not prepping is the cost involved. &nbsp;People seem to have this mental image of a &nbsp;bedroom or basement dedicated to being filled to the rafters with cans of Chef-Boy-Ardee. &nbsp;They imagine someone going out and spending $5000 at a time for a year\u2019s worth of food.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The fact is, a pantry is a work in progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>You can save a fortune on your food budget by shopping carefully and in quantity.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A well-stocked food pantry is not just there in case of an epic disaster or TEOTWAWKI. &nbsp;It can provide a cushion in the event of a job loss or personal economic downturn. &nbsp;Not only that but as an investment, purchasing food at today\u2019s prices is a great hedge against tomorrow\u2019s increases. &nbsp;The cost of food will only be going up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Take peanut butter, as an example: A few years ago, I purchased natural, no-stir peanut butter for $1.88 per jar when it was on sale. &nbsp;A year later, that very same brand in the very same sized jar was $5.99&nbsp;<em>on sale<\/em>&nbsp;due to a poor peanut harvest. &nbsp;That means that each jar of peanut butter on the shelves represented a savings of $4.11 &nbsp;\u2013 there is no other investment that gives you that kind of return.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before I even knew what prepping was, I had a well-stocked pantry. &nbsp;When I was first married and had a newborn baby, I was struggling to put food on the table with our tiny grocery budget. &nbsp;At the library, I stumbled upon a series of books by Amy Dacyczyn called \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0375752250\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=0375752250&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=frugality00-20&amp;linkId=AFPXC7HOOZJ7CBM5\">The Complete Tightwad Gazette<\/a>\u201c. &nbsp;This fantastic series gave me a whole new perspective on grocery shopping, and is the shopping basic philosophy I adhere to still.
