It\u2019s Latin for \u201cWho benefits?\u201d, and it refers to a perspective in legal analysis that the one who stands most to gain from a crime is often the perpetrator. It\u2019s the \u201cmotive\u201d part of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/ipfs.io\/ipfs\/QmXoypizjW3WknFiJnKLwHCnL72vedxjQkDDP1mXWo6uco\/wiki\/Means%2C_motive%2C_and_opportunity.html\">means, motive and opportunity<\/a>\u201c.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The term comes up in conspiracy circles a lot because motive is often the biggest plot hole in the official story promoted by the authorized narrative managers of the political\/media class about a given event. The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/@caityjohnstone\/confirmed-chemical-weapons-assessment-contradicting-official-syria-narrative-is-authentic-fbcbf7ef281a\">alleged Douma chemical attack<\/a>&nbsp;last year, for example, had&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/@caityjohnstone\/four-reasons-why-interventionism-in-syria-is-crazy-and-stupid-1e1f5fe51e3e\">no discernible benefit<\/a>&nbsp;to the Assad government whatsoever, but would have benefitted the cornered&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/southfront.org\/jaysh-al-islam-officially-unites-with-al-qaeda-in-eastern-ghouta\/\">Al-Qaeda affiliates<\/a>&nbsp;in the city by provoking air strikes from the west, so there remains a lot of skepticism from those who don\u2019t automatically believe their government and the plutocratic media when they say that Damascus was responsible. Such skepticism is dismissively branded \u201cconspiracy theory\u201d by the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/caitlinjohnstone.com\/2019\/05\/21\/establishment-narrative-managers-struggle-with-new-syria-plot-holes\/\">establishment narrative managers<\/a>, but it is fully justified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So it\u2019s a useful concept for analyzing world events in a way that punches through the fog of imperial propaganda. But the question \u201cWho benefits from this?\u201d can, and should, be taken much further.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Don\u2019t just ask \u201cCui bono?\u201d of potential false flag events. Ask it about every belief in your head.
