{"id":47468,"date":"2019-07-28T07:53:53","date_gmt":"2019-07-28T12:53:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=47468"},"modified":"2019-07-28T07:53:54","modified_gmt":"2019-07-28T12:53:54","slug":"the-cias-intelligence-authorization-act-would-criminalize-whistleblowers-and-reporters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=47468","title":{"rendered":"The CIA&#8217;s &#8220;Intelligence Authorization Act&#8221; Would Criminalize Whistleblowers and Reporters"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/massprivatei.blogspot.com\/2019\/07\/the-intelligence-authorization-act.html\">The CIA&#8217;s &#8220;Intelligence Authorization Act&#8221; Would Criminalize Whistleblowers and Reporters<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allowfullscreen=\"\" height=\"266\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/1Sc6QJkCce8?feature=player_embedded&amp;wmode=opaque\" width=\"320\"><\/iframe><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(Starts at approx. 5:00)<br>A CIA written Bill called the Intelligence Authorization Act&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.govtrack.us\/congress\/bills\/115\/s3153\/text\">(SB 3153)<\/a>&nbsp;would criminalize whistleblowers and reporters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Section 733 Sense of Congress on WikiLeaks:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;It is the sense of Congress that WikiLeaks and the senior leadership of WikiLeaks resemble a nonstate hostile intelligence service often abetted by state actors and should be treated as such a service by the United States.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Bill is also known as the Damon Paul Nelson and Matthew Young Pollard Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal Years 2018, 2019, and 2020&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/rules.house.gov\/bill\/116\/hr-3494\">(H.R. 3494)<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Demand Progress&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/demandprogress.org\/schiff-withdraw-anti-press-language-intel-auth-bill\/\">warned<\/a>,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHouse Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff is once again putting the interests of the intelligence agencies in concealing their misdeeds ahead of protecting the rights of ordinary Americans by criminalizing routine reporting by the press on national security issues and undermining congressional oversight in his Intelligence Authorization bill,\u201d Daniel Schuman, policy director, of Demand Progress said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He added: \u201cSchiff\u2019s expansion of the Intelligence Identities Protection Act beyond all reason will effectively muzzle reporting on torture, mass surveillance, and other crimes against the American people \u2014 all at the request of the CIA.
