{"id":47300,"date":"2019-07-18T16:49:40","date_gmt":"2019-07-18T21:49:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=47300"},"modified":"2019-07-18T16:49:44","modified_gmt":"2019-07-18T21:49:44","slug":"iran-offers-nuclear-deal-if-us-lifts-sanctions-oil-tumbles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=47300","title":{"rendered":"Iran Offers Nuclear Deal If US Lifts Sanctions; Oil Tumbles"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2019-07-18\/iran-offers-nuclear-deal-if-us-lifts-sanctions-oil-tumbles\">Iran Offers Nuclear Deal If US Lifts Sanctions; Oil Tumbles<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Who knew Rand Paul could be such an effective negotator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One day after the Republican senator and son of Ron Paul was reported to be Trump&#8217;s liaison to negotiate with Iran in hopes of easing tensions, sending the price of oil tumbling, the Guardian report that&nbsp;<strong>Iran&nbsp;has offered a deal with the US in which it would &#8220;formally and permanently&#8221; accept enhanced inspections of its nuclear program,&nbsp;<\/strong>in return for the permanent lifting of US sanctions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The offer was made by Iran&#8217;s foreign minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, on a visit to New York, although for those hoping that the US and Iran will become bffs, don&#8217;t get your hopes up: as the Guardian notes,&nbsp;<strong>the offer is unlikely to be warmly received by the Trump administration, which is currently demanding Iran make a range of sweeping concessions,&nbsp;<\/strong>including cessation of uranium enrichment and support for proxies and allies in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To thise, Zarif countered that his offer was \u201ca substantial move\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cIt\u2019s not about photo ops. We are interested in substance,\u201d he told reporters at the Iranian mission to the UN in New York on Thursday. \u201cThere are other substantial moves that can be made.\u201d<\/p><p>\u201cIf they [the Trump administration] are putting their money where their mouth is, they are going to do it. They don\u2019t need a photo op.
