Photo credit: Exxon via Twitter\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ExxonMobil is funding a little-known nonprofit that calls itself a \u201cpro-science advocacy organization,\u201d but whose scientific advisory board&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.acsh.org\/our-team\">includes<\/a>&nbsp;several renowned climate deniers and has worked for decades to sow doubt about the health impacts of climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Records show the ExxonMobil Foundation&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/corporate.exxonmobil.com\/-\/media\/Global\/Files\/worldwide-giving\/2017-Health-and-Env-Worldwide-Giving.pdf\">provided<\/a>&nbsp;grants of at least $60,000 in both&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/corporate.exxonmobil.com\/-\/media\/Global\/Files\/worldwide-giving\/2017-Health-and-Env-Worldwide-Giving.pdf\">2017<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/corporate.exxonmobil.com\/-\/media\/Global\/Files\/worldwide-giving\/2018-Worldwide-Giving-Report.pdf\">2018<\/a>&nbsp;to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.acsh.org\/\">American Council on Science and Health<\/a>&nbsp;(ACSH), a group that says its mission is to \u201cpublicly support evidence-based science and medicine.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Members of the ACSH scientific advisory board, however, include a who\u2019s who of climate deniers, including Patrick J. Michaels, who has worked for more than 30 years on behalf of the fossil fuel industry; S. Fred Singer, who last year wrote an article for the Wall Street Journal\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/climatefeedback.org\/evaluation\/wall-street-journal-commentary-grossly-misleads-readers-about-science-of-sea-level-rise-fred-singer\/\">falsely<\/a>\u00a0claiming that sea level rise is not caused by climate change; and William Happer, a current\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2019\/03\/01\/698073442\/heres-the-white-houses-top-climate-change-skeptic\">member<\/a>\u00a0of President Trump\u2019s National Security Council who as recently as\u00a02016 argued that carbon dioxide is not a pollutant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.documentcloud.org\/documents\/5756991-Mobil-Grants-with-annotations.html\">Documents<\/a>&nbsp;recently revealed in an&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/business\/2019\/jun\/12\/mobil-tax-exempt-donations-promote-interests-environmental-regulation-documents\">investigation by The Guardian<\/a>&nbsp;show ExxonMobil\u2019s current funding of the ACSH began prior to 1999, when Exxon and Mobil&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/corporate.exxonmobil.com\/en\/company\/who-we-are\/our-history\">merged<\/a>&nbsp;to become Exxon Mobil Corporation, one of the largest oil companies in the world.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cACSH is a front group for libertarian billionaires, fossil fuel companies, and basically every other industry selling dangerous products,\u201d said Geoffrey Supran, a Harvard University researcher who in 2017\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/iopscience.iop.org\/article\/10.1088\/1748-9326\/aa815f\">published a study<\/a>\u00a0that showed how Exxon\u2019s internal memos take the climate issue seriously while its public communications emphasize doubt about the science.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;\u2026click on the above link to read the rest of the article\u2026<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Exxon Continues to Fund \u2018Science\u2019 Group Steeped in Climate Denial and Delay ExxonMobil, under chief executive Darren Woods, center, has cut ties with some groups over their climate denial work, but continues to fund the American Council on Science and Health.
