Indeed, Canada has been one of the major players orchestrating repeated coup attempts in Venezuela since Juan Guaido declared himself president in January.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One opinion piece in a major Canadian publication, the&nbsp;<em>Toronto Star<\/em>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thestar.com\/opinion\/star-columnists\/2019\/01\/24\/canada-an-unlikely-ally-of-us-in-backing-venezuela-coup.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">notes<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Almost immediately after Guaido anointed himself president, Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland announced that he was Canada\u2019s guy and that Maduro should cede power to him.<\/p><p>Maduro won\u2019t do that without a fight. So what Freeland was really saying was that Canada would support anything, including an armed coup, to remove Maduro.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, another major Canadian publication, the\u00a0<em>Globe and Mail<\/em>, reports:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland spoke with Juan Guaido to congratulate him on unifying opposition forces in Venezuela, two weeks before he declared himself interim president.<\/p><p>Separately, Ottawa was told by opposition groups, former diplomats and a Venezuelan \u00e9migr\u00e9 to expect a major announcement.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>That was reported based on sourcing from a \u201csenior Canadian government source who was not authorized to speak publicly on the matter.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Perhaps it should be no surprise that Freeland \u2014 who&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/observer.com\/2017\/03\/chrystia-freeland-foreign-minister-canada-nazi-grandfather\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a>&nbsp;she was \u201cproud\u201d of her grandfather, a Nazi collaborator \u2014 sympathizes with Popular Will, the political party of Leopoldo Lopez, who appears to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/VuelvaLaURSS\/status\/1124096517319593986\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">have kept a copy<\/a>&nbsp;of Hitler\u2019s&nbsp;<em>Mein Kampf<\/em>&nbsp;in his library.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0\u2026click on the above link to read the rest of the article\u2026<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>VENEZUELAN COUP Inside Canada\u2019s Outsized and Under-Scrutinized Bid to Overthrow Maduro Canada has been a major player in orchestrating repeated coup attempts in Venezuela since Juan Guaido declared himself president in January.
