But now, the computer scientists at Cantab Capital, based out of Cambridge, have taken on another challenge:&nbsp;<strong>trying to create the next &#8220;bond king&#8221; out of algorithms and data<\/strong>, according to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/109efec0-8bf2-11e9-a1c1-51bf8f989972?segmentId=778a3b31-0eac-c57a-a529-d296f5da8125\">FT<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The company&#8217;s computer scientists have backgrounds in astrophysics and molecular biology and are trying to write programs that &#8220;surf the undulations&#8221;&nbsp;of the bond market in order to copy the best features from human traders, while leaving their frailties behind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Anthony Lawler, co-head of GAM Systematic, the arm of the Swiss asset manager that owns Cantab said:&nbsp;<strong>\u201cAn active credit trader is \u2018feeling the tape\u2019. We want our models to replicate that behaviour.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/zh-prod-1cc738ca-7d3b-4a72-b792-20bd8d8fa069.storage.googleapis.com\/s3fs-public\/inline-images\/quant.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/quant.png?itok=_8f0Ccj-\"><\/a><br><br>This is now the&nbsp;<strong>new world of bond investing,<\/strong>&nbsp;formerly an old-school industry that, for decades, had&nbsp;been limited to wealthy fund managers in places like London and New York. The rarely anointed title of &#8220;bond king&#8221; &#8211; usually used by the media &#8211; was reserved for traders like Bill Gross and Jeff Gundlach in the past.&nbsp;<strong>It&#8217;s now being sought after by computers.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rare Fund Freeze Attracts Scrutiny of U.K. Regulators<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Paul Kamenski, co-head of credit at Man Group\u2019s Numeric unit said: \u201cThis feels like the early days of the \u2018quant\u2019 equity industry. A lot of the research is in the early stage but the pace of advancement is likely to be faster.
