Cooling towers of Dukovany nuclear power plant in Dukovany.&nbsp;Source:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/commons.wikimedia.org\/wiki\/File:Cooling_towers_of_Dukovany_Nuclear_Power_Plant_in_Dukovany,_T%C5%99eb%C3%AD%C4%8D_District.JPG\">Wikimedia<\/a>.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This week Vancouver is host to a&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/cem-mi-vancouver2019.ca\/\">summit<\/a>&nbsp;of ministers from over 25 countries gathered \u201cto accelerate progress toward a clean energy future.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Created in 2010, the Clean Energy Ministerial&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cleanenergyministerial.org\/about-clean-energy-ministerial\">describes<\/a>&nbsp;itself as a \u201chigh-level global forum to promote policies that advance clean energy technology\u201d and \u201cto encourage the transition towards a global clean energy economy.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As we face massive environmental challenges, a transition is clearly needed. The problem is that one significant focus of the CEM is to find ways of preserving the existing energy infrastructure while greenwashing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Case in point: the cleverly termed NICE Future, which stands for Nuclear Innovation: Clean Energy Future, that was\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cleanenergyministerial.org\/initiative-clean-energy-ministerial\/nuclear-innovation-clean-energy-future-nice-future\">set up<\/a>\u00a0in 2018 by the CEM initiative.
