In April the transparency organization&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/consortiumnews.com\/2019\/04\/23\/new-cn-series-the-revelations-of-wikileaks-no-1-the-video-that-put-assange-in-u-s-crosshairs\/\">released \u201cCollateral Murder,\u201d<\/a>&nbsp;the video of U.S. Army helicopters as they shot more than a dozen Iraqis in Baghdad. That proved a worldwide shock and put the 4-year-old publisher on the global media map.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/consortiumnews.com\/2019\/05\/09\/the-revelations-of-wikileaks-no-2-the-leak-that-exposed-the-true-afghan-war\/\">\u201cAfghan War Diaries,\u201d<\/a>&nbsp;a cache of 75,000 documents, followed in July.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Three months later, on Oct. 22, 2010,&nbsp;<em>WikiLeaks&nbsp;<\/em>released an even more explosive trove: 391,831 documents and videos it named&nbsp;\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/wardiaries.wikileaks.org\/search\/?sort=date&amp;release=Iraq\">Iraq War Logs<\/a>.\u201d&nbsp;This superseded \u201cAfghan War Diaries\u201d as by far the most extensive leak of classified material in U.S. history. It shone a stark light on the U.S.\u2013led coalition\u2019s conduct in Iraq after its 2003 invasion, when the nation had erupted into a violent sectarian war. Julian Assange,&nbsp;<em>WikiLeaks<\/em>&nbsp;founder,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2010\/10\/24\/world\/24london.html\">said<\/a>&nbsp;the Logs \u201cconstituted the most comprehensive and detailed account of any war ever to have entered the public record.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/consortiumnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Screen-Shot-2019-05-07-at-2.25.36-PM.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/consortiumnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Screen-Shot-2019-05-07-at-2.25.36-PM.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-35890\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CNN live coverage of the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003.&nbsp;(YouTube)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The source for the \u201cIraq War Logs\u201d was once again Chelsea Manning, who by then was in a military prison awaiting trial on charges connected to \u201cCollateral Murder\u201d that wound up including 22 counts of theft, assisting the publication of classified intelligence and aiding the enemy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Documents&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With the publication of &nbsp;the \u201cIraq War Logs,\u201d&nbsp;<em>WikiLeaks&nbsp;<\/em>disgorged an unprecedented profusion of documents, military reports and videos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Logs cover the six-year period from Jan. 1, 2004, (a matter of months after the 2003 invasion) to Dec. 31, 2009. \u00a0<em>WikiLeaks \u00a0<\/em>partnered with\u00a0<em>The New York Times<\/em>,<em>\u00a0The<\/em>\u00a0<em>Guardian<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Der Spiegel<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Al Jazeera<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Le Monde\u00a0<\/em>to disseminate the Iraq Logs.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;\u2026click on the above link to read the rest of the article\u2026<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Revelations of WikiLeaks: No. 3\u2014The Most Extensive Classified Leak in History The \u201cIraq War Logs\u201d disgorged an unprecedented profusion of documents, military reports and videos.\u00a0 ***** For&nbsp;WikiLeaks, 2010 was an exceptionally eventful year.
