An independent analysis by the\u00a0<a title=\"Open Web Site\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/\" rel=\"external\">National Aeronautic and Space Administration<\/a>\u00a0also found 2014 to be the warmest on record.<\/p>\n<p>Rising global temperatures can lead to higher ocean levels, disruptions to global agriculture, the spread of tropical diseases and a change in weather patterns, according to\u00a0<a title=\"Open Web Site\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ipcc.ch\/\" rel=\"external\">the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/topics.bloomberg.com\/climate-change\/\">Climate change<\/a>\u00a0is perhaps the major challenge of our generation,\u201d Michael Freilich, director of NASA\u2019s Earth Science Division in the Space Mission Directorate in Washington, said on a conference call with reporters.<\/p>\n<p>The western U.S., parts of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/topics.bloomberg.com\/russia\/\">Russia<\/a>, interior\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/topics.bloomberg.com\/south-america\/\">South America<\/a>\u00a0as well as most of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/topics.bloomberg.com\/europe\/\">Europe<\/a>\u00a0experienced record heat, NOAA said.
