We believe that there is much common ground on which all sides of this discussion could come together to address climate change with policies that are practical, flexible, predictable, and durable.<\/em><br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; \u2014&nbsp;<em>The US Chamber of Commerce<\/em><br><br>The US Chamber of Commerce, through its&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uschamber.com\/press-release\/global-energy-institute-unveils-american-energy-cleaner-stronger-agenda\">Global Energy Institute<\/a>&nbsp;(GEI), recently announced the launch of a major new climate initiative called the&nbsp;<em>American Energy: Cleaner, Stronger<\/em>campaign. It\u2019s admitted purpose is&nbsp;<strong>to<\/strong>&nbsp;\u201c<strong>counter the Green New Deal<\/strong>&nbsp;(GND) with an energy innovation agenda\u2026to&nbsp;<strong>persuade the public and Congress<\/strong><strong>that technology is better than regulation<\/strong>&nbsp;in addressing climate change.\u201d (emphasis added).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>In taking a swipe at the GND, the Chamber has handed its progressive Democratic authors and supporters a key victory\u2014certainly something it had not intended to do.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whatever the Green New Deal is or isn\u2019t, the idea of it has accomplished what was thought Impossible just months ago&#8211;<em>the admission by traditionally conservative deniers&nbsp;<strong>that climate change is real and needs to be acted upon<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>now.<\/strong><\/em>&nbsp;The Chamber\u2019s announcement boldly states&nbsp;<strong><em>inaction is not an option.<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;The actions to be taken, however, remain matters of dogmatic ideological debate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On its face, the Chamber\u2019s call to action is a far cry from its&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20170913230147\/https:\/www.uschamber.com\/sites\/default\/files\/2017_policy_priorities_-_2.8.17.pdf\">2017 policy priorities<\/a>. Today climate change is on the minds of voters because it is on the lips of every Democrat in Congress, as well as those vying for the party\u2019s presidential nomination.&nbsp;<strong>The Chamber\u2019s newly announced campaign is an effort to remain relevant.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not every Democrat has embraced the GND.
