{"id":45416,"date":"2019-04-16T07:11:22","date_gmt":"2019-04-16T12:11:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=45416"},"modified":"2019-04-16T07:11:26","modified_gmt":"2019-04-16T12:11:26","slug":"the-us-war-against-iran-venezuelas-deep-states-is-going-public","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=45416","title":{"rendered":"The US\u2019 War Against Iran &#038; Venezuela\u2019s \u201cDeep States\u201d Is Going Public"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/orientalreview.org\/2019\/04\/15\/the-us-war-against-iran-venezuelas-deep-states-is-going-public\/\">The US\u2019 War Against Iran &amp; Venezuela\u2019s \u201cDeep States\u201d Is Going Public<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The US\u2019 desire to dismantle the network of Iranian influence in Latin America and specifically in Venezuela speaks to its commitment to counter the regional sway of its rivals\u2019 \u201cdeep states\u201d, though it\u2019s hitherto unprecedented for any country to make such a crusade public since the end of the Old Cold War, let alone clothe it in \u201canti-terrorist\u201d and \u201canti-criminal\u201d rhetoric.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">US Secretary of State Pompeo&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sputniknews.com\/latam\/201904141074116103-pompeo-latin-america-iran-terror\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recently reiterated<\/a>&nbsp;his rhetoric that Iran is a \u201cglobal threat\u201d, this time basing it on his claims that the country\u2019s network of influence in Latin America is supporting \u201ctransnational crime\u201d and \u201cterrorism\u201d. This comes shortly after Washington&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/eurasiafuture.com\/2019\/04\/08\/the-us-plans-to-designate-the-irgc-as-terrorists-arent-just-for-show\/?fbclid=IwAR2xRl2BYKb_90kiKpEWQV0aGgd3jSDQV9wgmLarqtNIG3RnTkJt0PS_XLc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">designated<\/a>&nbsp;the IRGC as a \u201cterrorist\u201d organization and approximately half a year since the Justice Department&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/orientalreview.org\/2018\/10\/24\/the-us-is-linking-hezbollah-with-the-cartels-to-advance-the-anti-iranian-infowar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">began investigating&nbsp;<\/a>Iranian ally Hezbollah\u2019s alleged links to drug cartels as a follow-up to the scandalous Obama-era \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/orientalreview.org\/2017\/12\/23\/obama-hezbollah-conspiracy-shake-deep-state-latin-america\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Operation Cassandra<\/a>\u201c.
