{"id":45332,"date":"2019-04-13T08:11:48","date_gmt":"2019-04-13T13:11:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=45332"},"modified":"2019-04-13T08:11:55","modified_gmt":"2019-04-13T13:11:55","slug":"the-legal-narrative-funnel-thats-being-used-to-extradite-assange","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=45332","title":{"rendered":"The Legal Narrative Funnel That\u2019s Being Used To Extradite Assange"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/caitlinjohnstone.com\/2019\/04\/13\/the-legal-narrative-funnel-thats-being-used-to-extradite-assange\/\">The Legal Narrative Funnel That\u2019s Being Used To Extradite Assange<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i2.wp.com\/caitlinjohnstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/medium-1-2.jpg?fit=800%2C400&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Isn\u2019t it interesting how an Ecuadorian \u201casylum conditions\u201d technicality, a UK bail technicality, and a US whistleblowing technicality all just so happened to converge in a way that just so happens to look exactly the same as imprisoning a journalist for telling the truth?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following the arrest of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, top UK officials all began simultaneously piping the following exact phrase into public consciousness: \u201cNo one is above the law.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure><iframe allowfullscreen=\"true\"><\/iframe><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis goes to show that in the United Kingdom, no one is above the law,\u201d Prime Minister Theresa May&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-ecuador-assange-may\/uk-pm-may-says-assange-arrest-shows-no-one-above-the-law-idUSKCN1RN1OA\">told parliament<\/a>&nbsp;after Assange\u2019s arrest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cJulian Assange is no hero and no one is&nbsp;above the law,\u201d&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Jeremy_Hunt\/status\/1116275669447716864\">tweeted<\/a>&nbsp;Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNearly 7 years after entering the Ecuadorean Embassy, I can confirm Julian Assange is now in police custody and rightly facing justice in the UK. I would like to thank Ecuador for its cooperation and @metpoliceuk&nbsp;for its professionalism. No one is above the law,\u201d&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/sajidjavid\/status\/1116273602574340096\">tweeted<\/a>&nbsp;Home Secretary Sajid Javid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over and over again that phrase showed up to be unquestioningly re-bleated by the human livestock known as the British press in all their reporting on the Assange case: No one is above the law. No one is above the law. No one is above the law. Something tells me they really want people to know that, with regard to Julian Assange, no one is above the law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But what is \u201cthe law\u201d in this particular case?
