{"id":44958,"date":"2019-04-02T07:54:47","date_gmt":"2019-04-02T12:54:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=44958"},"modified":"2019-04-02T07:54:50","modified_gmt":"2019-04-02T12:54:50","slug":"cnn-and-wapo-demand-that-trump-further-escalate-tensions-with-russia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=44958","title":{"rendered":"CNN And WaPo Demand That Trump Further Escalate Tensions With Russia"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/caitlinjohnstone.com\/2019\/04\/01\/cnn-and-wapo-demand-that-trump-further-escalate-tensions-with-russia\/\">CNN And WaPo Demand That Trump Further Escalate Tensions With\u00a0Russia<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/caitlinjohnstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Screen-Shot-2019-04-02-at-8.04.37-AM.jpg?fit=1200%2C658&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>CNN&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CNN\/status\/1112367079406080004\">has aired a segment<\/a>&nbsp;in which pundit Fareed Zakaria tells the network\u2019s audience that the US president has \u201cbeen unwilling to confront Putin in any way on any issue\u201d and asks \u201cwill Venezuela be the moment when Trump finally ends his appeasement?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The segment is a near-verbatim reading of Zakaria\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/archive.is\/68XzC\"><em>Washington Post<\/em>&nbsp;column<\/a>&nbsp;from a couple of days prior, so that\u2019s two massive prongs through which this false and pernicious narrative is being driven into mainstream consciousness claiming that the Trump administration has been far too dovish toward Moscow, rather than dangerously hawkish&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/@caityjohnstone\/responses-to-this-tweet-show-how-people-fixate-on-narrative-over-fact-b43925719952\">as is actually the case<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Zakaria begins his segment by describing the Trump administration\u2019s (<a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/@caityjohnstone\/americas-venezuela-strategy-coup-by-sheer-narrative-control-fc8ee1f01e23\">completely illegitimate<\/a>) efforts to oust Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, then describing Russian efforts to counter this agenda as an attempt to \u201ctaunt the United States.\u201d He then spends the rest of the segment asking if Trump will be brave and patriotic enough to further escalate tensions against a nuclear superpower. Zakaria concludes by implying that if Trump fails to increase world-threatening nuclear tensions to effect yet another US regime change intervention in yet another oil-rich country, it will be because he is a Kremlin agent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1060\" height=\"597\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/mt62EgQ72GE?version=3&amp;rel=1&amp;fs=1&amp;autohide=2&amp;showsearch=0&amp;showinfo=1&amp;iv_load_policy=1&amp;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\"><\/iframe><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe big question for Washington is: Will it allow Moscow to make a mockery of another U.S. red line?\u201d Zakaria said. \u201cThe United States and Russia have taken opposing, incompatible stands on this issue.
