Once four degrees is reached\u2014which may arrive by the end of this century\u2014the polar ice will be gone, sea levels will have risen dramatically and extreme climate disruption will be a fact.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Body\">But climate scientists aren\u2019t sure what will happen in the gap between these two scenarios. No-one knows where the point of no return is located, nor what the consequences will be of current climate changes for the human species and the planet. In effect, humanity is playing a game of Russian roulette. So what\u2019s getting in the way of taking the necessary action?<\/p>\n<p class=\"Body\">To find out some answers to this question, I hosted a discussion in November of 2014 between\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.climateconviction.org\/about.html\">George Marshall<\/a>, the co-founder of the Climate Outreach and Information Network (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.climateoutreach.org.uk\/\">COIN<\/a>), and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/news.lancs.ac.uk\/Web\/MediaCentre\/Expert\/Pages\/John-Foster.aspx\">John Foster<\/a>, a Lecturer in Philosophy at<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lancaster.ac.uk\/\">Lancaster University<\/a>\u00a0in the UK.
