PEPE ESCOBAR: Empire of Chaos in Hybrid War Overdrive<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Trump administration\u2019s foreign policy may be easily deconstructed as a crossover between The Sopranos and late-night comedy, writes Pepe Escobar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I<\/strong>s this the Age of Anxiety? The Age of Stupidity? The Age of Hybrid War? Or all of the above? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As right populism learns to use algorithms, artificial intelligence (AI) and media convergence<\/a>, the Empire of Chaos<\/a>, in parallel, is unleashing all-out hybrid<\/a> and semiotic war. <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dick Cheney\u2019s Global War on Terror (GWOT) is back, metastasized as a hybrid mongrel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But GWOT would not be GWOT without a Wild West scarecrow<\/a>. Enter Hamza bin Laden, son of Osama. On the same day the State Department announced <\/a>a $1 million bounty on his head, the so- called \u201cUN Security Council IS and Al-Qaeda Sanctions Committee\u201d declared Hamza the next al-Qaeda leader. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since January 2017, Hamza has been a Specially Designated Global Terrorist <\/a>by the State Department \u2013 on par with his deceased Dad, back in the early 2000s. The Beltway intel community \u201cbelieves\u201d<\/a> Hamza resides \u201cin the Afghanistan-Pakistan region.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Remember these are the same people who \u201cbelieved\u201d former Taliban leader Mullah Omar resided in Quetta, Baluchistan, when in fact he was safely ensconced only a few miles away from a massive U.S. military base in Zabul, Afghanistan. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Considering that Jabhat al-Nusra, or al-Qaeda in Syria, for all practical purposes, was defined as no more than \u201cmoderate rebels\u201d by the Beltway intel community, it\u2019s safe to infer that new scarecrow Hamza is also a \u201cmoderate\u201d. And yet he\u2019s more dangerous than vanished fake Caliph Abu Baqr al-Baghdadi. Talk about a masterful example of culture jamming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
