{"id":44636,"date":"2019-03-21T07:57:12","date_gmt":"2019-03-21T12:57:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=44636"},"modified":"2019-03-21T07:57:18","modified_gmt":"2019-03-21T12:57:18","slug":"16-years-after-iraq-the-us-has-become-a-nation-of-passive-neocons-%ef%bb%bf","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=44636","title":{"rendered":"16 Years After Iraq, the US Has Become a Nation of Passive Neocons \ufeff"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mintpressnews.com\/16-years-iraq-us-become-nation-passive-neocons\/256387\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mintpressnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/AP_03021504068_edited.jpg\" alt=\"ANTI WAR PROTEST\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>NEO-CONMEN&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mintpressnews.com\/16-years-iraq-us-become-nation-passive-neocons\/256387\/\">16 Years After Iraq, the US Has Become a Nation of Passive Neocons&nbsp;<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>After Iraq, the neocons began waging another war, one for America\u2019s soul.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>WASHINGTON (Opinion) \u2014&nbsp;<\/strong>Sixteen years have passed and the memory of the Iraq War is distant for many, save for the millions of people \u2014 Iraqi and American alike \u2014 who saw their lives destroyed by one of the greatest lies ever sold to the American public.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yet, while plenty of Americans sleep easy thinking that such an atrocity as the invasion and occupation of Iraq could never happen again, the U.S. government has continuously been involved in many smaller, equally disastrous wars \u2014 both seen and unseen \u2014 largely thanks to the fact that those who brought us the Iraq War remain both respected and still present in the halls of power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Indeed, the only thing the domestic outrage over the Iraq War seemed to accomplish has been a massive effort waged by the government and the corporate elite to engineer a public that doesn\u2019t complain and doesn\u2019t care when their government meddles or invades another country.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For many Americans today, much like the war itself, the outrage over the Iraq War is a distant memory and comparable outrage has failed to emerge over any other U.S. government crime committed or contemplated on a similar scale \u2014 whether it be the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mintpressnews.com\/sex-slavery-isis-illegal-arms-trade-libya-plunged-failed-state-us-invasion\/227478\/\">\u201cregime change\u201d invasion<\/a>&nbsp;of Libya, the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mintpressnews.com\/amid-renewed-saudi-offensive-5-2-million-children-in-yemen-now-face-starvation\/249574\/\">ongoing genocide<\/a>&nbsp;in Yemen, or in response to crimes the government is&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ronpaulinstitute.org\/archives\/featured-articles\/2019\/march\/18\/is-trump-really-about-to-attack-venezuela\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">now setting up<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our forgetfulness has informed our silence and our silence is our complicity in the crimes \u2014 past and present \u2014 orchestrated by the neocons, who never left government after Iraq but instead rebranded themselves and helped to culturally engineer our passivity.
