{"id":44602,"date":"2019-03-20T06:40:24","date_gmt":"2019-03-20T11:40:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=44602"},"modified":"2019-03-20T06:40:26","modified_gmt":"2019-03-20T11:40:26","slug":"twitter-restricts-account-of-julian-assanges-mother","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=44602","title":{"rendered":"Twitter Restricts Account of Julian Assange\u2019s Mother"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/consortiumnews.com\/2019\/03\/19\/twitter-restricts-account-of-julian-assanges-mother\/\">Twitter Restricts Account of Julian Assange\u2019s Mother<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The social media giant has given no reason to Christine Assange who had turned to Twitter to campaign for the liberty of her son<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Twitter account of Christine Assange, the mother of the arbitrarily detained founder of WikiLeaks, has been restricted, she told&nbsp;<strong>Consortium News<\/strong>&nbsp;on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMy Twitter account has been \u2018blocked due to \u2018unusual activity,&#8217;\u201d Ms. Assange wrote in a text message. Twitter, however, has provided her no reason for its action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ms. Assange is a prolific user of Twitter in her campaign to free her son who has been a refugee in the Ecuador embassy in London since 2012.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Twitter has posted the following message on her page:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/consortiumnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/screenshot-twitter.com-2019.03.19-21-24-27.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/consortiumnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/screenshot-twitter.com-2019.03.19-21-24-27-700x396.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-34293\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While a user can access her page by agreeing to view her profile, Ms. Assange told&nbsp;<strong>Consortium News<\/strong>&nbsp;she is unable to post new Tweets to her account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Her last post, at 11:55 am on Tuesday in Australia, where she lives, is a retweet of an&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/newmatilda.com\/2019\/03\/15\/the-psychology-of-getting-julian-assange-part-4-why-even-some-lefties-want-to-see-him-hang\/\">article<\/a>&nbsp;published about her son. She posted 12 tweets in the past 24 hours. \u201cInteresting that it followed on from a day of my tweets about free speech and calling on journalists globally to stand up for Julian,\u201d Ms. Assange said in a text message.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Clinton and Bolton<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the past ten days, Ms. Assange tweeted direct replies to Hillary Clinton and John Bolton, the U.S. national security adviser. Bolton had tweeted on March 9: \u201cUS military should use&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Wikileaks?src=hash\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">#Wikileaks<\/a>&nbsp;for cyber warfare target practice.
