{"id":44244,"date":"2019-03-06T10:26:20","date_gmt":"2019-03-06T15:26:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=44244"},"modified":"2019-03-06T10:34:39","modified_gmt":"2019-03-06T15:34:39","slug":"as-the-economy-teeters-on-the-brink-of-a-recession-u-s-debt-levels-are-absolutely-exploding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=44244","title":{"rendered":"As The Economy Teeters On The Brink Of A Recession, U.S. Debt Levels Are Absolutely Exploding"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"http:\/\/theeconomiccollapseblog.com\/archives\/as-the-economy-teeters-on-the-brink-of-a-recession-u-s-debt-levels-are-absolutely-exploding\">As The Economy Teeters On The Brink Of A Recession, U.S. Debt Levels Are Absolutely Exploding<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/theeconomiccollapseblog.com\/archives\/as-the-economy-teeters-on-the-brink-of-a-recession-u-s-debt-levels-are-absolutely-exploding\/debt-burden-public-domain#main\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/theeconomiccollapseblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Debt-Burden-Public-Domain-540x384.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15026\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>We now have official confirmation that the U.S. economy has dramatically slowed down.&nbsp; In recent days I have shared&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/theeconomiccollapseblog.com\/archives\/18-really-big-numbers-that-show-that-the-u-s-economy-is-starting-to-fall-apart-very-rapidly\">a whole bunch of numbers<\/a>&nbsp;with my readers that clearly demonstrate that a new economic downturn has begun.&nbsp; And even though stock prices have been rising, the numbers for the \u201creal economy\u201d have been&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/theeconomiccollapseblog.com\/archives\/investors-brace-for-impact-as-the-cancer-that-is-ravaging-the-real-economy-starts-to-spread\">depressingly bad<\/a>&nbsp;lately.&nbsp; But what we didn\u2019t have was official confirmation from the Federal Reserve that the economy is really slowing down, but now we do.&nbsp; According to the Atlanta Fed\u2019s GDPNow model, the economy is growing&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.streetinsider.com\/Fed\/Atlanta+Fed+leaves+U.S.+first+quarter+GDP+growth+view+at+0.3+percent\/15211588.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cat a 0.3 percent annualized rate in the first quarter\u201d<\/a>\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><strong>The U.S. economy is growing at a 0.3 percent annualized rate in the first quarter<\/strong>, based on data on domestic construction spending in December released on Monday, the Atlanta Federal Reserve\u2019s GDPNow forecast model showed.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>For years, the goal has been to get U.S. growth above the key 3 percent threshold, but what this forecast is telling us is that economic growth is currently at&nbsp;<strong>one-tenth<\/strong>&nbsp;of that level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That is just&nbsp;<strong>barely<\/strong>&nbsp;above recession territory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So when I say that we are teetering on the brink of a recession, I am not exaggerating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We also just got some really bad news&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/wolfstreet.com\/2019\/03\/04\/more-lousy-data-emerges-after-government-shutdown-construction-spending\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">about construction spending<\/a>\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Construction spending fell 0.6% in December from November, based on a seasonally adjusted annual rate,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.census.gov\/construction\/c30\/pdf\/release.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">released<\/a>&nbsp;today by the Commerce Department.
