{"id":43666,"date":"2019-02-08T10:13:57","date_gmt":"2019-02-08T15:13:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=43666"},"modified":"2019-02-08T10:14:01","modified_gmt":"2019-02-08T15:14:01","slug":"from-canada-with-love","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=43666","title":{"rendered":"From Canada, With Love"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ericpetersautos.com\/2019\/02\/08\/from-canada-with-love\/\">From Canada, With Love<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ericpetersautos.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Canada-lead-.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ericpetersautos.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Canada-lead-.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>One thing inevitably follows the next \u2013&nbsp;<em>if<\/em>&nbsp;the first thing is tolerated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When the Supreme Court, America\u2019s unelected legislative body, created an exception (several, actually) to the Fourth Amendment\u2019s clear and definite prohibition of searches&nbsp;<em>without<\/em>&nbsp;having first established probable cause and without a specific warrant, the Fourth Amendment became a functional nullity \u2013 the equivalent of a plastic water jug shot through with holes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of those exceptions created out of thin air by the Supremes is the one which empowers armed government workers to randomly stop motorists who\u2019ve given no reason to suspect them of having broken any laws \u2013 in order to force them to prove they<em>&nbsp;haven\u2019<\/em>t broken any.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And (hopefully, from the viewpoint of the government) to find some they\u00a0<em>have<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>This exception to what had been the Fourth \u2013 and Fifth \u2013 Amendment\u2019s protections created Checkpoint America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Which didn\u2019t used to exist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Millennials won\u2019t remember that better, vanished time, but anyone older than 40 today can remember it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Americans were once free to travel unmolested by the state\u2019s armed goons unless the state\u2019s armed goons could give a reason for molesting them, specifically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not arbitrarily and randomly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Which is to say,<em>&nbsp;unreasonably<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Public&nbsp;<em>saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaafety<\/em>&nbsp;is given as the justification for the trampling of the Fourth and Fifth Amendments\u2019 clear prohibitions of this checkpoint business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSomeone\u201d among the herd of randomly stopped cars might be \u201cdrunk\u201d \u2013 or some other illegal thing, it is argued.
