This was well below the expected decline of 0.6% and Retail sales from August to October were all revised downwards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/2019-01-23_5-40-29.jpg?itok=31V0nyOU\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/zh-prod-1cc738ca-7d3b-4a72-b792-20bd8d8fa069.storage.googleapis.com\/s3fs-public\/inline-images\/2019-01-23_5-40-29.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Sales fell in 6 of 11 subsectors, representing 75% of total retail trade<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Largest upside contributor on month was the general merchandise category, 0.20 percentage points<\/li><li>Largest downside contributor on month was the gasoline stations category, -0.53 percentage points<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And the reaction was immediate weakness in the Loonie&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/2019-01-23_5-35-50.jpg?itok=UxuSbOJc\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/zh-prod-1cc738ca-7d3b-4a72-b792-20bd8d8fa069.storage.googleapis.com\/s3fs-public\/inline-images\/2019-01-23_5-35-50.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the bright side, Cannabis sales total C$54 million in November.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Loonie Tumbles After Canadian Retail Sales Crumble Amid the absence of US macro data due to the shutdown, it seems Canada (and China) are making up for it &#8211; by crushing the goldilocks dream.
