The highly anticipated annual presentation puts the world\u2019s most pressing issues into focus, giving a sense of what is top-of-mind for global decision-makers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Below are the top five risks highlighted in this year\u2019s report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/2oqz471sa19h3vbwa53m33yj-wpengine.netdna-ssl.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/global-risks-2019.png\" alt=\"Visualizing the Top Global Risks in 2019\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">THE WORLD\u2019S EVOLVING RISK LANDSCAPE<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The report looks at two specific ways of evaluating global risks:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The likelihood of an event occurring<\/li><li>The impact or severity of an event, should it occur<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And over recent years, it\u2019s clear that the composition of these top threats has evolved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/2oqz471sa19h3vbwa53m33yj-wpengine.netdna-ssl.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/global-risks-over-time.png\" alt=\"top global risks over time\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2009, the world was still reeling from the global financial crisis, so economic concerns were naturally at the forefront of discussions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, the most likely scenarios to play out in the near future involve extreme weather events and natural disasters. Also trending upward are cyber-security threats and concerns over the security of personal data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">RISK PERCEPTION<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each year, the Global Risks Perception Survey looks at which risks are viewed by global decision-makers as increasing in the coming year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/2oqz471sa19h3vbwa53m33yj-wpengine.netdna-ssl.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/global-risks-survey-2019-1.png\" alt=\"global risks survey 2019\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some clear themes emerge from the responses:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A Breakdown in Geopolitical Cooperation<\/strong><br>From&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.visualcapitalist.com\/history-u-s-trade-wars\/\">trade wars<\/a>&nbsp;to the dissolution of weapons treaties, cooperation between countries is on the decline.
