One of the worst affected rivers was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iww.ie\/river_guide\/river.php?id=295\">the Owenriff in County Galway<\/a>, where temperatures well above summer time norms were recorded over a prolonged period.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Gallagher says high temperatures could lead to localised extinction of native fish diversity in the future; there would be knock-on economic losses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe would reach a stage where the Owenriff catchment or similar catchments become inhospitable to brown trout and salmon over the summer period in the near future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2026click on the above link to read the rest of the article\u2026<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Warmer waters leave Irish anglers fishless Anglers\u2019 prize: But the salmon is not doing well in Irish waters.
