They require prosecutors in most cases to exhaust all obvious investigative methods for identifying leaks before they go after a journalist&#8217;s records &#8211; and free-speech rights.<\/p>\n<div id=\"el_852152548\" data-google-query-id=\"CKH_wIal8N8CFUOvTwodZ-sBnA\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/5206\/invc.zerohedge\/economics_news_3__container__\">In addition, <strong>the rules generally have required DOJ to alert news organizations in advance of a possible subpoena<\/strong>, giving both sides a chance to negotiate before the subpoena \u2014 viewed as a nuclear button by most journalists \u2014 gets pushed.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Multiple sources familiar with the ongoing DOJ review tell me that it has two main goals.
