{"id":4272,"date":"2015-01-09T06:32:16","date_gmt":"2015-01-09T11:32:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=4272"},"modified":"2015-01-09T06:32:16","modified_gmt":"2015-01-09T11:32:16","slug":"canada-is-in-serious-trouble-as-debt-house-prices-climb-deutsche-bank-declares","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=4272","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Canada Is In Serious Trouble&#8217; As Debt, House Prices Climb, Deutsche Bank Declares"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 class=\"title\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.ca\/2015\/01\/08\/canada-housing-debt-deutsche-bank_n_6438440.html?utm_hp_ref=mostpopular&amp;ir=Canada+Business\" target=\"_blank\">&#8216;Canada Is In Serious Trouble&#8217; As Debt, House Prices Climb, Deutsche Bank Declares<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>It was little more than a year ago that\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.ca\/2013\/12\/11\/canada-housing-overvalued_n_4425462.html\" target=\"_hplink\">Deutsche Bank declared Canada\u2019s housing market to be the most overvalued in the world<\/a>, and on Thursday the German-based bank doubled down on its bearish assessment of Canada.<\/p>\n<p>Residential real estate in Canada\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/2015-01-08\/canada-home-prices-are-63-too-high-deutsche-bank.html\" target=\"_hplink\">is overvalued by 63 per cent<\/a>, according to research from Deutsche Bank chief international economist Torsten Slok.<\/p>\n<p>Broken down, Slok sees the market as being 35-per-cent overvalued when compared to incomes, and 91-per-cent overvalued when compared to rents. That\u2019s a more bearish assessment than most. The Bank of Canada estimates the market is<a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.ca\/2014\/12\/10\/bank-of-canada-risky-lending-overvalued-housing_n_6301894.html\" target=\"_hplink\">overvalued by between 10 per cent and 30 per cent<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But those are\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.ca\/2014\/09\/04\/canada-real-estate-overvalued-economist_n_5762286.html\" target=\"_hplink\">similar numbers to those at the Economist magazine<\/a>, which for years has been calling Canada\u2019s housing market overvalued.
