Citizen groups, concerned about their families\u2019\u00a0<a style=\"box-sizing: border-box; text-decoration: none; color: #439241; background-image: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; padding: 0px; margin: 0px;\" href=\"http:\/\/ecowatch.com\/2014\/08\/06\/are-cancer-rates-elevated-texas-fracking-sites\/\">health<\/a>\u00a0and safety and frustrated by the city\u2019s failure to enact any restrictions on fracking, gathered enough signatures to force city council to vote on the ban in July. After the council\u00a0<a style=\"box-sizing: border-box; text-decoration: none; color: #439241; background-image: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; padding: 0px; margin: 0px;\" href=\"http:\/\/ecowatch.com\/2014\/07\/16\/north-texas-fracking-ban\/\">voted against it<\/a>, the issue went to the November ballot.\u00a0The battle has positioned the industry-backed group Denton Taxpayers for a Strong Economy against the community group Denton Drilling Awareness Group\/Frack Free Denton.
