According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/u-s-ship-sails-near-disputed-south-china-sea-islands-in-challenge-to-beijing-11546838050\">the Wall Street Journal<\/a>, the US-guided-missile destroyer the USS McCampbell patrolled within 12 miles of the Paracel Islands in the South China Sea on Monday. In particular, it came within a few miles of three islands: Tree, Lincoln and Woody.<\/p>\n<div id=\"el_25973197\" data-google-query-id=\"COKAxfTI298CFclsAQodAwgFZw\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/5206\/invc.zerohedge\/economics_news_2__container__\"><iframe id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/5206\/invc.zerohedge\/economics_news_2\" title=\"3rd party ad content\" name=\"google_ads_iframe_\/5206\/invc.zerohedge\/economics_news_2\" width=\"3\" height=\"7\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" data-google-container-id=\"3\" data-load-complete=\"true\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>China sent its own ship to try and deter the McCampbell, but ultimately decided to file an official complaint.<\/strong> According to Bloomberg, China urged the US to halt &#8220;provocative actions&#8221; in the South China Sea. &#8220;The actions by the U.S. fleet have violated Chinese law and related international laws, and undermined the peace, security and good order in the relevant waters,\u201d Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang told a briefing Monday in Beijing. <strong>&#8220;China strongly opposes the actions.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/sites\/default\/files\/inline-images\/2019.01.07uss.JPG\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/sites\/default\/files\/styles\/inline_image_desktop\/public\/inline-images\/2019.01.07uss.JPG?itok=hhbmq8JS 1x\" alt=\"USS\" width=\"500\" height=\"254\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"f18dd305-a7f7-4e54-9beb-84350e614335\" data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/sites\/default\/files\/inline-images\/2019.01.07uss.JPG?itok=hhbmq8JS\" data-link-option=\"1\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Paracels are claimed by Vietnam and Taiwan but have been controlled by China since the Communist Nation seized them from Vietnamese forces in 1974.
