Ukrainian Official Urges UK Navy To Cross Kerch Strait “To See How Russia Reacts”<\/span><\/a><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n

Despite relative calm ensuing in the area of the dangerous Nov. 25 Kerch Strait incident, Ukrainian officials have continued making media statements suggesting escalation could still yet be on the horizon. On Friday a\u00a0deputy minister in Kiev urged\u00a0the British Navy to send a warship to the Sea of Azov to test Russia\u2019s response<\/strong>. The appeal came at\u00a0a moment when the UK Secretary of State for Defence Gavin Williamson met with Ukrainian officials to reiterate that “The UK is a steadfast partner to Ukraine as it faces illegal acts of aggression on its sovereign territory,”<\/strong> according to a statement, and as an unarmed UK surveillance ship, the HMS Echo, is deployed to the Black Sea.<\/p>\n

A high ranking deputy minister involved in seeking the return of Crimea to Ukraine named Yuri Hrymchak, said on a televised political talk show on Friday<\/a>,\u00a0\u201cWhen it is being said that Russia won\u2019t allow the passage of a British ship, I have one remark \u2013 has anyone tried it?\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014\u00a0<\/em>according to a translation of the provocative comments by RT. Moscow subsequently described the idea as “bonkers,” according to RT<\/a>.<\/p>\n
