So essentially posits still another new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pnas.org\/content\/early\/2018\/12\/05\/1809600115\">blockbuster study<\/a> on climate change, this one just published in the <em>Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences<\/em>. Our fossil-fuel industrial economy, the study details, has made for the fastest climate changes our Earth has ever seen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we think about the future in terms of the past, where we are going is uncharted territory for human society,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/sciencetech\/article-6480817\/Human-activity-cause-Earths-climate-revert-ice-free-state-not-seen-50-million-years.html\">notes<\/a> the study lead author Kevin Burke from the University of Wisconsin.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the roughly 20 to 25 years I have been working in the field,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/sciencetech\/article-6480817\/Human-activity-cause-Earths-climate-revert-ice-free-state-not-seen-50-million-years.html\">adds<\/a> another researcher on the effort, Wisconsin\u2019s John Williams, \u201cwe have gone from expecting climate change to happen, to detecting the effects, and now, we are seeing that it\u2019s causing harm,\u201d as measured in property damage and deaths, in intensified flooding and fires.<\/p>\n<p>The last time climate on Earth saw nearly as drastic and rapid a climate shift, scientists <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/12\/07\/science\/climate-change-mass-extinction.html?emc=edit_th_181211&amp;nl=todaysheadlines&amp;nlid=20270491211\">relate<\/a> in another new study published in the journal <em>Science<\/em>, came some 252 million years ago, and that shift unfolded over the span of a few thousand years.
