More Tax Dollars Wasted to Try to Fix.<\/a><\/h3>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"entry-content clearfix\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.activistpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/2mviw8.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-178028\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-178028 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.activistpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/2mviw8.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.activistpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/2mviw8.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.activistpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/2mviw8-300x200.jpg 300w\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"500\" \/><\/a>From their mouths to your ears, a recent article from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.utilitydive.com\/news\/48-of-power-and-utility-ceos-think-cybersecurity-attack-is-inevitable-kpm\/542412\/\"><em>Utility Dive<\/em><\/a> confirms what opponents have been saying ALL ALONG \u2013 the implementation of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.activistpost.com\/tag\/smart-technology\">\u201cSmart Grid\u201d<\/a> along with the installation of millions of utility <a href=\"https:\/\/www.activistpost.com\/tag\/smart-meters\">\u201cSmart\u201d Meters<\/a> and related infrastructure have created a recipe for cybersecurity disaster.\u00a0 Not only that \u2013 <strong>more tax dollars are being wasted to try to fix what many experts have always considered to be unfixable in re cybersecurity risk and \u201cSmart\u201d utility technology:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>From the article:<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/home.kpmg.com\/xx\/en\/home\/insights\/2018\/05\/ceo-outlook.html\">broader KPMG report<\/a> focuses on CEOs across a number of industries, and finds it isn\u2019t just power and utilities executives who worry about the balance between technological innovation and susceptibility to cyberattacks. The <a href=\"https:\/\/home.kpmg.com\/xx\/en\/home\/insights\/2018\/05\/ceo-outlook.html#growthheadwinds\">top concern for CEOs<\/a> in general are economic nationalism, followed by cybersecurity, \u201cdisruptive technology risk\u201d and climate change risk.<\/p>\n<p>For utility executives, cybersecurity continues to be a top concern as grid modernization potentially opens up the power sector to more vulnerabilities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn theory, a grid with more distributed resources can increase the potential attack surface for adversaries because the capacity of distributed generation, including renewables, has grown exponentially over the last decade,\u201d Bill Lawrence, director of the North American Electric Reliability Corporation\u2019s Electricity Information Sharing and Analysis Center, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.utilitydive.com\/news\/cybersecurity-and-the-distributed-grid-a-double-edged-sword\/523285\/\">told Utility Dive in May. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>Connecticut officials in September found there had been millions of attempts to hack utilities in the state over the past year, though <a href=\"https:\/\/www.utilitydive.com\/news\/connecticut-utilities-steel-themselves-for-successful-cyber-intrusion\/532783\/\">all intrusions were successfully prevented.<\/a>\u00a0In October, seven Russian military officials were indicted for hacking-related charges, including allegedly trying to steal login credentials from Westinghouse Electric employees <a href=\"https:\/\/www.utilitydive.com\/news\/russian-hackers-indicted-for-targeting-nuclear-firm-westinghouse-electric\/538913\/\">involved with advanced nuclear reactor development.<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u2026click on the above link to read the rest of the article\u2026<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Courtesy of Utility \u201cSmart\u201d Meters and Grid: 48% of Power and Utility CEOs Think Cybersecurity Attacks Are Inevitable.
