‘Mini Ice Age’ Looms As NASA Scientist Warns Lack Of Sunspots Could Bring Record Cold<\/span><\/a><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cThe sun is entering one of the deepest Solar Minima of the Space Age,\u201d<\/em><\/strong> wrote Dr. Tony Phillips just six weeks ago, on September 27, 2018.\u00a0 The lack of sunspots on our sun could bring about record cold temperatures,<\/strong>\u00a0and perhaps even a mini ice age.\u00a0<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Our\u00a0sun was not expected to head into a solar minimum until around 2020<\/strong>, but it appears to be heading in that direction a little early which could prove to be bad news for warm weather lovers.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

But a prolonged solar minimum\u00a0could mean a \u201cmini ice age.<\/a>\u201d<\/strong> The last time there was a prolonged solar minimum, it did, in fact, lead to a mini ice-age which was scientifically known as the\u00a0Maunder minimum<\/a><\/p>\n

SHTFplan.com’s Mac Slavo writes<\/a> that sunspots have been absent for most of 2018 and Earth\u2019s upper atmosphere is responding,<\/strong> says Phillips, the editor of\u00a0spaceweather.com<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cThe bad news,\u201d <\/strong><\/em>according to Phillips, is:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt also delays the natural decay of space junk, resulting in a more cluttered environment around Earth.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cIt could happen in a matter of months,\u201d <\/strong>says\u00a0Martin Mlynczak of NASA\u2019s Langley Research Center on the cold snap that may be coming.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cIf current trends continue, it could soon set a Space Age record for cold,\u201d<\/strong> says Mlynczak. \u201cWe\u2019re not there quite yet,\u201d he said. However, \u201cmonths\u201d is not all that far away.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Data from NASA\u2019s TIMED (Thermosphere Ionosphere Mesosphere Energetics and Dynamics) satellite shows that the thermosphere (the uppermost layer of air around our planet) is cooling and shrinking, literally decreasing the radius of the atmosphere. This reduction of solar activity could result in a global cooling phase.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe thermosphere always cools off during Solar Minimum. It\u2019s one of the most important ways the solar cycle affects our planet,\u201d <\/strong><\/em>said Mlynczak,\u00a0according to\u00a0The New American<\/em>.\u00a0<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
