{"id":40290,"date":"2018-11-09T06:47:11","date_gmt":"2018-11-09T11:47:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=40290"},"modified":"2018-11-09T06:47:11","modified_gmt":"2018-11-09T11:47:11","slug":"cdc-director-congos-ebola-outbreak-may-not-be-containable","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=40290","title":{"rendered":"CDC Director: Congo\u2019s Ebola Outbreak May Not Be Containable"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><a href=\"http:\/\/www.shtfplan.com\/headline-news\/cdc-director-congos-ebola-outbreak-may-not-be-containable_11082018\">CDC Director: Congo\u2019s Ebola Outbreak May Not Be Containable<\/a><\/h3>\n<div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-45028\" src=\"http:\/\/shtfplan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/ebola-outbreak1.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 560px) 100vw, 560px\" srcset=\"http:\/\/shtfplan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/ebola-outbreak1.jpg 560w, http:\/\/shtfplan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/ebola-outbreak1-300x200.jpg 300w\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"374\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Robert Redfield, the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said that people need to be prepared for the worst.\u00a0 Redfield said the Democratic Republic of Congo\u2019s newest Ebola outbreak may not be containable.<\/p>\n<p>Tom Inglesby, the director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security in Baltimore, said that if the Ebola outbreak becomes endemic in the Congo\u2019s North Kivu province, it shows \u201cwe\u2019ve lost the ability to trace contacts, stop transmission chains and contain the outbreak.\u201d In this situation, Ebola could spread, which could negatively impact both trade and travel,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.beckershospitalreview.com\/quality\/congo-s-ebola-outbreak-may-not-be-containable-cdc-director-says.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> according to a report by <em>Becker\u2019s Hospital Review<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI do think this is one of the challenges we\u2019ll have to see, whether we\u2019re able to contain, control and end the current outbreak with the current security situation, or do we move into the idea that this becomes more of an endemic Ebola outbreak in this region, which we\u2019ve never really confronted,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/health\/2018\/11\/05\/cdc-director-warns-that-congos-ebola-outbreak-may-not-be-containable\/?utm_term=.624155e54b47\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr. Redfield told\u00a0<em>The Washington Post<\/em>.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/health\/2018\/11\/05\/cdc-director-warns-that-congos-ebola-outbreak-may-not-be-containable\/?utm_term=.624155e54b47\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">According to\u00a0<em>The Washington Post, <\/em><\/a>if\u00a0international Ebola containment efforts fail in the Congo, it would mark the first time the virus was not stopped since 1976 when Ebola was first identified.\u00a0The current Ebola outbreak is going on its fourth month, totaling\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.beckershospitalreview.com\/quality\/ebola-outbreak-now-congo-s-3rd-largest-with-270-cases.html\">300 cases and 186 deaths<\/a>\u00a0as of November 4th.<\/p>\n<p>The problems with containment of this particular Ebola outbreak stem from the fact that the disease is spreading in an active war zone with several armed groups attacking health officials, government aids and civilians. Some civilians with Ebola have refused treatment, and health care workers are still being infected.
