{"id":39782,"date":"2018-10-27T10:45:57","date_gmt":"2018-10-27T15:45:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=39782"},"modified":"2018-10-27T10:45:57","modified_gmt":"2018-10-27T15:45:57","slug":"what-to-eat-when-youre-broke","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=39782","title":{"rendered":"What to Eat When You\u2019re Broke"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 class=\"entry-title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theorganicprepper.com\/what-to-eat-when-youre-broke\/\">What to Eat When You\u2019re Broke<\/a><\/h3>\n<div class=\"m-f\"><\/div>\n<p>The lower your income is, the more difficult it is to be particular about what you feed your family.<\/p>\n<p>This probably isn\u2019t an earth-shattering revelation to anyone, but if you feel like experimenting, try to buy a week\u2019s worth of healthy food for a family on a budget of, say, $50-75. \u00a0Food manufacturers that <a class=\"broken_link\" href=\"http:\/\/truthstreammedia.com\/lower-income-grocery-store-features-items-with-even-more-gmos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">target lower-income shoppers<\/a>\u00a0with more affordable products\u00a0tend to include more GMOs and toxic ingredients in their offerings.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes, it just isn\u2019t possible to stick to my usual food restrictions. \u00a0Generally speaking, I avoid:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Non-organic dairy because of the hormones and antibiotics as well as the GMO feed given to the animals<\/li>\n<li>Non-organic meat\u00a0because of the hormones and antibiotics as well as the GMO feed given to the animals<\/li>\n<li>Anything containing corn, soy, or canola in any form because it is almost certain to be GMO<\/li>\n<li>Anything with chemical additives like artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives<\/li>\n<li>Anything that is likely to have been doused in pesticides<\/li>\n<li>Anything containing neurotoxins like MSG, fluoride, or aspartame (along with other artificial sweeteners)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It is a matter, then, of weighing the pros and cons, and figuring out what things, for you, are the most important, while also deciding\u00a0which standards can be sacrificed. \u00a0These decisions will be different for everyone, based on their personal health concerns, their genetic propensity for certain diseases, and the members of the family for whom they are buying the food.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes, when you\u2019re looking at someone else\u2019s situation while you are comfortably backed by a loaded pantry, it\u2019s easy to be judgemental and tell them what they \u201cshould\u201d do.
