Despite all the bluster from the Trump Administration about \u201cwinning trade wars\u201d and \u201ctrade wars are easy,\u201d America\u2019s<\/span><span id=\"E120\" class=\"qowt-font2-TimesNewRoman\"> trade imbalances for August were<\/span><span id=\"E121\" class=\"qowt-font2-TimesNewRoman\"> the highest ever and its deficit with its most contentious partner \u2013 China \u2013 reached an all-time high. <\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"E122\"><span id=\"E123\" class=\"qowt-font2-TimesNewRoman\">Some high<\/span><span id=\"E124\" class=\"qowt-font2-TimesNewRoman\">lights or low lights for <\/span><span id=\"E125\" class=\"qowt-font2-TimesNewRoman\">the Trump Administration and the clueless economic nationali<\/span><span id=\"E126\" class=\"qowt-font2-TimesNewRoman\">sts <\/span><span id=\"E127\" class=\"qowt-font2-TimesNewRoman\">were<\/span><span id=\"E128\" class=\"qowt-font2-TimesNewRoman\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>August imports of industrial supplies and materials ($49.7 billion) were the highest since December 2014 ($51.8 billion).<\/li>\n<li>August imports of automobile vehicles, parts, and engines ($31.7 billion) were the highest on record.<\/li>\n<li>August imports of other goods ($9.1 billion) were the highest on record.<\/li>\n<li>August petroleum imports ($20.5 billion) were the highest since December 2014 ($23.6 billion).*<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p id=\"E129\" class=\"qowt-li-0_0 qowt-list qowt-stl-ListParagraph\"><span id=\"E139\" class=\"qowt-font2-TimesNewRoman\">These numbers will probably mean that the Trump Administra<\/span><span id=\"E140\" class=\"qowt-font2-TimesNewRoman\">tion will push for more <\/span><span id=\"E141\" class=\"qowt-font2-TimesNewRoman\">and stiffer tariffs<\/span><span id=\"E142\" class=\"qowt-font2-TimesNewRoman\">,<\/span><span id=\"E143\" class=\"qowt-font2-TimesNewRoman\"> although the President is set <\/span><span id=\"E144\" class=\"qowt-font2-TimesNewRoman\">to meet with <\/span><span id=\"E145\" class=\"qowt-font2-TimesNewRoman\">Chinese President Xi <\/span><span id=\"E147\" class=\"qowt-font2-TimesNewRoman\">Jinping<\/span><span id=\"E149\" class=\"qowt-font2-TimesNewRoman\"> next month. Yet, if anything comes out of the meeting<\/span><span id=\"E150\" class=\"qowt-font2-TimesNewRoman\">,<\/span><span id=\"E151\" class=\"qowt-font2-TimesNewRoman\"> it will have little impact on US trade imbalances<\/span><span id=\"E152\" class=\"qowt-font2-TimesNewRoman\"> or the economy overall<\/span><span id=\"E153\" class=\"qowt-font2-TimesNewRoman\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"E154\"><span id=\"E155\" class=\"qowt-font2-TimesNewRoman\">P<\/span><span id=\"E156\" class=\"qowt-font2-TimesNewRoman\">resident Trump does not<\/span><span id=\"E157\" class=\"qowt-font2-TimesNewRoman\"> have to meet with the Chinese President <\/span><span id=\"E158\" class=\"qowt-font2-TimesNewRoman\">or<\/span><span id=\"E159\" class=\"qowt-font2-TimesNewRoman\">,<\/span><span id=\"E160\" class=\"qowt-font2-TimesNewRoman\"> for that matter<\/span><span id=\"E161\" class=\"qowt-font2-TimesNewRoman\">,<\/span><span id=\"E162\" class=\"qowt-font2-TimesNewRoman\"> any other head of state<\/span><span id=\"E163\" class=\"qowt-font2-TimesNewRoman\">,<\/span><span id=\"E164\" class=\"qowt-font2-TimesNewRoman\"> for the cause of US trade problems emanate right where he currently resides \u2013 Washington, D.C. The US trade deficit is the culmination of years of <\/span><span id=\"E165\" class=\"qowt-font2-TimesNewRoman\">ruinous <\/span><span id=\"E166\" class=\"qowt-font2-TimesNewRoman\">Congressional and Presidential polices of high taxes, onerous regulations, and deficit spending which have gutted the nation\u2019s manufacturing base.
