Leaked Google Secret Memo Admits Abandonment of Free Speech for \u2018Safety And Civility\u2019<\/a><\/h3>\n

An internal company briefing produced by Google and leaked exclusively to Breitbart News argues that due to a variety of factors, including the election of President Trump, the \u201cAmerican tradition\u201d of free speech on the internet is no longer viable.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Despite leaked video footage showing top executives declaring their intention to ensure that the rise of Trump and the populist movement is just a\u00a0\u201cblip\u201d in history<\/a>, Google has repeatedly\u00a0denied<\/a>\u00a0that the political bias of its employees filter into its products.<\/p>\n

But the 85-page briefing, titled \u201cThe Good Censor,\u201d admits that Google and other tech platforms now \u201ccontrol the majority of online conversations\u201d and have undertaken a \u201cshift towards censorship\u201d in response to unwelcome political events around the world.<\/p>\n

Examples cited in the document include the 2016 election and the rise of Alternative for\u00a0Deutschland (AfD) in Germany.<\/p>\n

Responding to the leak, an official Google source said the document should be considered internal research, and not an official company position.<\/p>\n

The briefing labels the ideal of unfettered free speech on the internet a \u201cutopian narrative\u201d that has been \u201cundermined\u201d by recent global events as well as \u201cbad behavior\u201d on the part of users. It can be read in full below.<\/p>\n

It acknowledges that major tech platforms, including Google, Facebook and Twitter initially promised free speech to consumers. \u201cThis free speech ideal was instilled in the DNA of the Silicon Valley startups that now control the majority of our online conversations,\u201d says the document.<\/p>\n
