Trump and Washington\u2019s Warmongers Sow Death and Destruction<\/a><\/h3>\n<\/header>\n

The squalid charade in the US Senate over the nomination of a Supreme Court judge and the comic opera performance by President Donald Trump at the UN General Assembly are deeply embarrassing for many Americans \u2014 but far from all Americans, because substantial numbers support the flawed Court nominee and strongly endorse Trump\u2019s arrogant and malevolent insults to so many nations. They relish confronting and menacing those who dare to disagree with them.<\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s\u00a0threats<\/a>\u00a0against Venezuela were in line with similar\u00a0intimidating remarks<\/a>\u00a0he made about North Korea at last year\u2019s UN Assembly, but it\u2019s unlikely we\u2019ll see a similar reversal this time round. He also threatened Venezuela last year, and he\u2019s maintained the offensive, in all meanings of the word. In 2017\u00a0he declared<\/a>\u00a0that President Nicolas Maduro\u2019s government was strangling the country through \u201cfaithfully implemented\u201d socialism and vowed to help the Venezuelan people \u201cregain their freedom, recover their country and restore their democracy\u201d. In New York on September 25 he said it\u00a0would be easy for the Venezuelan military to launch a coup d\u2019\u00e9tat and impose regime change<\/a>, which was a direct threat to the country\u2019s sovereignty. His encouragement of revolution followed his\u00a0announcement<\/a>\u00a0to the Assembly that \u201cI honour the right of every nation in this room to pursue its own customs, beliefs and traditions. The United States will not tell you how to live or work or worship. We only ask that you honour our sovereignty in return.\u201d<\/p>\n

But Trump is telling \u2014 ordering \u2014 many countries how to live and work, and has no respect whatever for customs or beliefs that do not fit with his confused and distorted view of how the nations of the world should conduct their affairs. He contradicted his statement about all nations having the right to do as they wish by\u00a0calling on the UN<\/a>\u00a0to \u201cresist socialism and the misery it brings to everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n
