Dodges Questions at Senate Hearing<\/a><\/h3>\n<\/header>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"td-post-content td-pb-padding-side\">\n<p><strong>Within a Senate hearing on Wednesday \u2013 that was seemingly swept out of the media spotlight by the lead up to today\u2019s Judiciary Committee\u2019s hearing involving a Brett Kavanaugh accuser \u2013\u00a0Google\u2019s chief privacy officer Keith Enright admitted the existence of Project Dragonfly, reportedly a censored search engine for China.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"td-animation-stack-type0-2\" src=\"https:\/\/boygeniusreport.files.wordpress.com\/2017\/01\/google-gmail-apps.jpg?quality=98&amp;strip=all&amp;w=782\" alt=\"Image result for google\" \/><\/p>\n<p>During the hearing which covered privacy, bias, and censorship \u2013 members of the Senate\u00a0Commerce Committee\u00a0pressed Enright on how Google\u2019s policies protecting user data would square up with\u00a0the till-then rumored sanctioned search engine for China.<\/p>\n<p>Before Wednesday\u2019s hearing, Google\u00a0had\u00a0refused to confirm or comment on the reports claiming it has\u00a0begun working on\u00a0a project called \u201cDragonfly,\u201d but the Google chief told lawmakers on Wednesday that\u00a0\u201cthere is a Project Dragonfly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/32Szg7nbCmQ?feature=oembed\" width=\"100%\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Enright would maintain while being pressed on the censorship project by Senator Ted Cruz:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"td_quote_box td_box_center\"><p>\u201cI will say that my understanding is that we are not, in fact, close to launching a search product in China, and whether we would or could at some point in the future remains unclear \u2026 If we were, in fact, to finalize a plan to launch a search product in China, my team would be actively engaged.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>After admitting that \u201cDragonfly\u201d project did exist, the privacy officer offered\u00a0dodgy answering, saying that he is \u201cnot clear on the contours of what is in scope or out of the scope of that project.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Senator Cruz then asked if he thought that the Chinese government censors what its citizens see, to which Enright responded:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"td_quote_box td_box_center\"><p>\u201cAs the privacy representative of Google, I\u2019m not sure that I have an informed opinion on that question.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u2026click on the above link to read the rest of the article\u2026<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Google Admits Existence of Censored Chinese Search Engine Project;
