{"id":38325,"date":"2018-09-26T08:20:59","date_gmt":"2018-09-26T13:20:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=38325"},"modified":"2018-09-26T08:20:59","modified_gmt":"2018-09-26T13:20:59","slug":"being-julian-assange","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=38325","title":{"rendered":"Being Julian Assange"},"content":{"rendered":"<header>\n<h3 class=\"entry-title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/consortiumnews.com\/2018\/09\/25\/being-julian-assange\/\">Being Julian Assange<\/a><\/h3>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>As Julian Assange\u2019s fate may soon be resolved, here\u2019s an in-depth look at the history of WikiLeaks, the infiltration of activist communities and the strength &amp; vulnerability of the world-changing publisher whose freedom is at stake, by Suzie Dawson.<span id=\"more-30397\"><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a class=\"image-anchor\" href=\"https:\/\/consortiumnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/eight_col_suzie-candidate-200.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-30404\" src=\"https:\/\/consortiumnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/eight_col_suzie-candidate-200-130x130.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"87\" height=\"87\" data-lazy-loaded=\"true\" \/><\/a>Certain journalists would consult an almanac for Washington DC on the night of the 2016 election, and begin this article with a few picturesque, scene-setting words about the chill winds whipping the capital as it lay poised, awaiting the results with bated breath.<\/p>\n<p>But I have more respect for my readers than that.<\/p>\n<p>So I\u2019ll cut to the chase.<\/p>\n<p><strong>That Election<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In 2016 an accused serial sexual predator ran for the US presidency against the notoriously corrupt wife of a previously impeached President \u2013 who is also an accused serial sexual predator.<\/p>\n<p>That these facts alone were insufficient to invalidate the entire race is testament to the audacity with which corrupt power operates in the West, and how conditioned the public is to consuming the warped byproducts of its naked machinations.<\/p>\n<p>Arguably the most contentious election in recent history, the accused serial sexual predator won.<\/p>\n<p>During the race, WikiLeaks Editor-in-Chief Julian Assange aptly described the two candidates as \u201c<em>cholera vs gonorrhoea<\/em>.\u201d Edward Snowden <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Snowden\/status\/746428816743104512\">ran a Twitter poll<\/a> asking his followers whether they would rather vote for a <em>\u201ccalculating villain\u201d,<\/em> an <em>\u201cunthinking monster\u201d<\/em> or <em>\u201cliterally anyone else\u201d. <\/em>67% chose the latter.
