For Florence, it was mainly a rain event in the Carolinas. For Mangkhut, it was the wind that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/news\/438557-hongkong-highest-alert-mangkhut\/\">devastated<\/a> the Philippines on Friday\/Saturday, and now wreaking havoc in Hong Kong and southern China on Sunday\u00a0(<em>scroll down for videos<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/sites\/default\/files\/inline-images\/DnBX1yxXcAAjtfe.jpg?itok=ApOkRTFH\" data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/sites\/default\/files\/inline-images\/DnBX1yxXcAAjtfe.jpg?itok=ApOkRTFH\" data-link-option=\"0\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/sites\/default\/files\/inline-images\/DnBX1yxXcAAjtfe.jpg\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/sites\/default\/files\/styles\/inline_image_desktop\/public\/inline-images\/DnBX1yxXcAAjtfe.jpg?itok=ApOkRTFH 1x\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"266\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"abaa79b2-97ad-424b-a581-9f7dd06eeb8d\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Storms forming in the western Pacific tend to hit with much higher winds and the people who live in their path are often poorer and more vulnerable,&#8221; said Gabriel Vecchi, a Princeton University hurricane and climate scientist.<\/p>\n<p>Mangkhut made landfall Friday on the northeastern part of Luzon island in the Philippines with sustained winds of 165 mph. Florence, meanwhile, unleashed record-setting rain on parts of the North Carolina coastline.
