A challenge is not knowing how much time we have. Scientists have been conservative in their estimates, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/popularresistance.org\/hothouse-earth-a-last-missed-opportunity\/\">feedback loops<\/a>\u00a0could rapidly increase the impacts of climate change.<\/p>\n<p>The costs of not acting are high. The benefits of investing in a clean energy economy would be widespread. We need to keep building the movement.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/popularresistance-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/uploads\/2018\/09\/global-ouccurence-of-exteme-weather-events-from-new-climate-economy-e1536436631606.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-134427\" src=\"https:\/\/popularresistance-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/uploads\/2018\/09\/global-ouccurence-of-exteme-weather-events-from-new-climate-economy-e1536436631606.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"403\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: New Climate Economy<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Climate Crisis Is Already Devastating<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The urgency of the climate crisis is obvious and cannot be reasonably denied. ABC News reported about the horrific California wildfires, saying there is an \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/climate-change-make-wildfires-spread-factor\/story?id=56937704\">undeniable link to climate change.<\/a>\u201d They wrote, \u201cExperts have said that rising temperatures linked to climate change are making the fires larger, more dangerous and more expensive to fight.\u201d This year\u2019s fires broke records set by last year\u2019s fires, leading Governor Jerry Brown to describe them as the \u201cnew normal\u201d caused by\u00a0years of drought and rising temperatures.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfchronicle.com\/bayarea\/article\/Wildfires-getting-worse-due-to-climate-change-9961409.php\">Researchers at Columbia University and the University of Idaho<\/a>\u00a0reported in 2017 that human-caused warming was drying out forests, causing peak fire seasons across the West to expand every year by an average of nine days since 2000.\u00a0The U.S. Department of Agriculture said the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/climate-change-make-wildfires-spread-factor\/story?id=56937704\">2017 fire season cost more than $2 billion<\/a>, making it the most expensive fire season on record.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldweatherattribution.org\/analysis\/heatwave\/\">Extreme heat<\/a>\u00a0is becoming more common because of climate change. Since 2001,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2018\/01\/18\/climate\/hottest-year-2017.html\">17 of the 18 warmest years<\/a>\u00a0on record have occurred.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/heat-records-temperature-climate-change-map-f82a017b-4383-43d0-ae52-42517138b108.html\">Records were broken all over the world<\/a>\u00a0this year.\u00a0Record heat is also contributing to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecowatch.com\/hurricanes-climate-change-2569932920.html\">more ferocious storms<\/a>.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldweatherattribution.org\/analysis\/storms\/\">Storms<\/a>\u00a0with heavy rain and high winds are increasing, as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucsusa.org\/global-warming\/science-and-impacts\/impacts\/hurricanes-and-climate-change.html\">the Union of Concerned Scientists warns.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2026click on the above link to read the rest of the article\u2026<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>End the Fossil Fuel Economy The\u00a0Global #RiseForClimate actions\u00a0are just one example of many that the climate justice movement is building the power needed to transform the economy and put in place policies to confront climate change.\u00a0 The ingredients\u00a0exist for the climate justice movement to rapidly succeed.
