People Are \u201cFighting For Food\u201d As Authorities Warn Florence \u201cCould Produce A Disaster Comparable\u201d To Hurricane Katrina<\/a><\/h3>\n<\/header>\n

\"\"<\/a>Hurricane Florence is about to make a \u201cdirect hit\u201d on the east coast, and public officials are making one ominous declaration about this storm after another.\u00a0 Florence is being called \u201cextremely dangerous\u201d<\/a>, \u201ca monster\u201d<\/a>, \u201cthe worst in 60 years\u201d<\/a> and \u201cthe storm of a lifetime\u201d<\/a>.\u00a0 By the end of this week we shall see if this storm lives up to the hype, but at this point it is definitely an immensely powerful storm.\u00a0 Hurricanes of this magnitude very rarely come this far north, and panic is starting to set in all across the mid-Atlantic region as people realize that this is really happening.\u00a0 Over a million people are in the process of evacuating, and it is being reported that there is \u201cfighting for food\u201d<\/a> at the stores that still have some supplies left\u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was chaotic! Oh my goodness, long lines!\u201d said Fatimah Spivey.<\/p>\n

Reilly Norman described it as \u201ca mess in there; it\u2019s wiped out clean.\u201d<\/p>\n

The water aisles were especially bare \u2014 empty shelf after empty shelf.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe came around 1 and all the waters were gone,\u201d<\/strong> said Blake Swain. \u201cNow, it\u2019s just people fighting for food.\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Interestingly, federal officials actually conducted a \u201csimulation\u201d that involved a category 4 hurricane hitting the mid-Atlantic region back in late April and early May<\/a>\u2026<\/p>\n

Just months ago, disaster planners simulated a Category 4 hurricane strike alarmingly similar to the real-word scenario now unfolding on a dangerously vulnerable stretch of the East Coast.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

That \u201csimulation\u201d produced \u201ccatastrophic damage\u201d along the east coast, and as a result some experts are now concerned \u201cthat Hurricane Florence could produce a disaster comparable to 2005\u2019s Hurricane Katrina<\/a>\u201c\u2026<\/p>\n

A fictional \u201cHurricane Cora\u201d barreled into southeast Virginia and up the Chesapeake Bay to strike Washington, D.C., in the narrative created by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and Argonne National Laboratory.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
