These plants generally reside near a body of water\u2014a river, lake, estuary or ocean\u2014because they require a constant source of water for cooling purposes. Without cooling water, a nuclear reactor will overheat, leading to core damage, containment failure, and release of harmful radiation into the environment.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/sites\/default\/files\/inline-images\/2018-09-11_08-35-27.png?itok=_CcaQLg3\" data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/sites\/default\/files\/inline-images\/2018-09-11_08-35-27.png?itok=_CcaQLg3\" data-link-option=\"0\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/sites\/default\/files\/inline-images\/2018-09-11_08-35-27.png\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/sites\/default\/files\/styles\/inline_image_desktop\/public\/inline-images\/2018-09-11_08-35-27.png?itok=_CcaQLg3 1x\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"365\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"263d270c-8d28-41ae-9d57-734dfbfe7c0c\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Florence will approach the Carolina coast Thursday night into Friday with winds in excess of 100mph along with flooding rains.
