system<\/a> &#8211; <em>which is a rating assigned to each citizen based on government data regarding their economic and social status<\/em> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/technology\/2018\/08\/21\/facebook-is-rating-trustworthiness-its-users-scale-zero-one\/?noredirect=on&amp;utm_term=.e5931ee2d4cd\">The Washington Post reports <\/a>that <strong>Facebook has begun to assign its users a reputation score<\/strong>, predicting their trustworthiness on a scale from zero to one.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/sites\/default\/files\/inline-images\/2018-08-21_7-41-07.jpg?itok=lnCDGhpm\" data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/sites\/default\/files\/inline-images\/2018-08-21_7-41-07.jpg?itok=lnCDGhpm\" data-link-option=\"0\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/sites\/default\/files\/inline-images\/2018-08-21_7-41-07.jpg\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/sites\/default\/files\/styles\/inline_image_desktop\/public\/inline-images\/2018-08-21_7-41-07.jpg?itok=lnCDGhpm 1x\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"237\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"08469a5b-e99e-410f-85bc-294cd9ab28af\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Under the guise of its effort to combat &#8216;fake news&#8217;, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/technology\/2018\/08\/21\/facebook-is-rating-trustworthiness-its-users-scale-zero-one\/?noredirect=on&amp;utm_term=.e5931ee2d4cd\">WaPo notes<\/a> <em>(citing an interview with Tessa Lyons, the product manager who is in charge of fighting misinformation)<\/em> that <strong>the previously unreported ratings system, which Facebook has developed over the last year, has evolved to include measuring the credibility of users to help identify malicious actors<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Users&#8217; trustworthiness score between zero and one isn\u2019t meant to be an absolute indicator of a person\u2019s credibility, Lyons told the\u00a0publication, nor is there is a single unified reputation score that users are assigned.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the signals we use is how people interact with articles,\u201d Lyons said in a follow-up email.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cFor example,<strong> if someone previously gave us feedback that an article was false and the article was confirmed false by a fact-checker, then we might weight that person\u2019s future false news feedback more than someone who indiscriminately provides false news feedback<\/strong> on lots of articles, including ones that end up being rated as true.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The score is one measurement among thousands of behavioral clues that Facebook now takes into account as it seeks to understand risk.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201cI like to make the joke that, if people only reported things that were [actually] false, this job would be so easy!\u201d<\/strong> said Lyons in the interview. <strong>\u201cPeople often report things that they just disagree with.\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u2026click on the above link to read the rest of the article\u2026<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Facebook&#8217;s Secret &#8220;User-Reputation Score&#8221;
