Lawyer: Monsanto Bullied Scientists And Hid Weedkiller\u2019s Cancer Risks<\/a><\/h3>\n

A lawyer on Monday argued that Roundup creator Monsanto hid the cancer-causing effects of their weedkiller and bullied scientists into making claims it was safe. In a landmark lawsuit against the global chemical corporation, the lawyer didn\u2019t hold back in his accusations against Monsanto.<\/p>\n

\u201cMonsanto has specifically gone out of its way to bully \u2026 and to fight independent researchers,\u201d said the attorney Brent Wisner, who presented internal Monsanto emails that he said showed how the agrochemical company rejected critical research and expert warnings over the years while pursuing and helping to write favorable analyses of their products. \u201cThey fought science,\u201d added Wisner, who is representing Dwayne\u00a0Johnson.\u00a0 Johnson alleges Monsanto is to blame<\/a> for the cancer that has been aggressively spreading throughout\u00a0his entire body.<\/p>\n

According to The Guardian,<\/em><\/a> Johnson\u00a0(also known as Lee) is a father of three and a former school groundskeeper, who doctors say may have just mere months to live. He is the\u00a0first person to take Monsanto to trial<\/a>\u00a0over allegations that the chemical sold under the Roundup brand is linked to cancer although thousands<\/a>\u00a0have made similar legal claims<\/a> across the United States.\u00a0 This lawsuit focuses on the chemical glyphosate, the world\u2019s most widely used herbicide, which Monsanto began marketing as Roundup in 1974.\u00a0 The company began by presenting it as a \u201ctechnological breakthrough\u201d that could kill almost every weed without harming humans or the environment.<\/p>\n

Monsanto lawyer George Lombardi alleged that the body of research over the past decades was on the company\u2019s side. \u201cThe scientific evidence is overwhelming that glyphosate-based products do not cause cancer and did not cause Mr. Johnson\u2019s cancer,\u201d Lombardi claimed in his opening statements.<\/a><\/p>\n

Unfortunately\u00a0for Lombardi, many studies have shown his statements as fallacious.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
