Naimi defended the Saudi position and made clear that OPEC nations will not cut production at any price. His comments dismiss any notion of collusion with the United States and spell trouble for producers everywhere.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-size: 1em; font-family: inherit; vertical-align: baseline; padding: 0px; margin: 0px 0px 1em 0px; border: 0px initial initial;\">Since its November meeting, OPEC production has remained relatively steady while trending upward. Libya has had a few slip-ups and Venezuelan production is hurting, but the 12-member cartel\u00a0<a style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-size: 14px; font-family: inherit; vertical-align: baseline; color: #24606c; text-decoration: underline; outline-style: none; outline-width: initial; outline-color: initial; padding: 0px; margin: 0px; border: 0px initial initial;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/2014-12-12\/venezuela-hasn-t-officially-requested-emergency-opec-meeting.html\">exceeded<\/a>their collective target for the sixth straight month, pumping 30.56 million barrels per day (mbpd). Still, production capacity is\u00a0<a style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-size: 14px; font-family: inherit; vertical-align: baseline; color: #24606c; text-decoration: underline; outline-style: none; outline-width: initial; outline-color: initial; padding: 0px; margin: 0px; border: 0px initial initial;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/2014-09-10\/saudi-arabia-told-opec-it-cut-oil-output-408k-b-d-in-aug-.html\">nearing<\/a>\u00a012 mbpd and Naimi suggested the oil-rich nation might put it to use sooner rather than later. It\u2019s all part of a plan to demonstrate that high-efficiency producing countries deserve the greatest market share \u2013 an idea Naimi describes as the operative principle of all capitalist countries.
