Yet the limitations in his field of view become critical in the book\u2019s concluding chapter, when he reveals which particular axe he is especially eager to grind.<\/p>\n<p>Both the title of the book and its timing invite comparison with Vaclav Smil\u2019s 2017 work <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/mitpress.mit.edu\/books\/energy-and-civilization\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Energy and Civilization: A History<\/a><\/em><\/strong> (reviewed<em><strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/anoutsidechance.com\/2017\/06\/20\/energy-and-civilization-a-review\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a><\/strong><\/em>).
