Trucking companies and railroads \u2013 an infamously cyclical industry that suffered through the \u201ctransportation recession\u201d from 2015 through much of 2016 \u2013 are jacking up their prices with gusto.<\/p>\n<p>The total amount that shippers spent on freight by truck, rail, barge, and air is skyrocketing, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cassinfo.com\/Transportation-Expense-Management\/Supply-Chain-Analysis\/Cass-Freight-Index.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cass Freight Expenditure Index<\/a>, which tracks the amounts spent by shippers on all modes of transportation. This spending is a function of price <em>and<\/em> volume.
