the latest Chinese credit creation data released on Tuesday, added significantly to the risk of a &#8220;sudden global economic stop&#8221; after the PBOC reported that in May, <strong>China&#8217;s broadest monetary aggregate, the Total Social Financing, just posted it smallest monthly increase since July 2016, <\/strong>confirming that Beijing&#8217;s shadow deleveraging campaign is accelerating and gaining even more traction, even if the threat of a global deflationary spillover is rising by the day.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/sites\/default\/files\/inline-images\/2018-06-12_19-19-08.jpg?itok=xb2PsrKc\" data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/sites\/default\/files\/inline-images\/2018-06-12_19-19-08.jpg?itok=xb2PsrKc\" data-link-option=\"0\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/sites\/default\/files\/inline-images\/2018-06-12_19-19-08.jpg\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/sites\/default\/files\/styles\/inline_image_desktop\/public\/inline-images\/2018-06-12_19-19-08.jpg?itok=xb2PsrKc 1x\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"263\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"524fa587-004d-4c7a-8b68-e9be6e72e2f8\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A quick look at the numbers reveals that there was not much of a surprise in traditional new RMB loans, which rose RMB1150bn in May, slightly below consensus RMB1200bn, growing 12.6% yoy in May.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/sites\/default\/files\/inline-images\/2018-06-12_19-20-42.jpg?itok=DcnggFDU\" data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/sites\/default\/files\/inline-images\/2018-06-12_19-20-42.jpg?itok=DcnggFDU\" data-link-option=\"0\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/sites\/default\/files\/inline-images\/2018-06-12_19-20-42.jpg\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/sites\/default\/files\/styles\/inline_image_desktop\/public\/inline-images\/2018-06-12_19-20-42.jpg?itok=DcnggFDU 1x\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"262\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"4b2677dc-153b-4e9c-b994-34fb39cc58b1\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>However, it was the sharp, unexpected plunge in Total social financing growth, which attracted attention and which rose only RMB 760.8bn in May, almost half the consensus print of RMB1300bn, and sharply below April&#8217;s RMB1560bn increase.<\/p>\n<p>Of the main TSF components, <strong>the drop in shadow bank lending was particularly sharp: <\/strong>this has been the area where Beijing has been most focused in their deleveraging efforts as it\u2019s the most opaque and riskiest segment of credit.
