ALERT: Presenter Warns of \u2018Ecological Apocalypse\u2019 In Great Britain<\/a><\/h3>\n

Springwatch presenter Chris Packham is warning Great Britain of an \u201cecological apocalypse.\u201d On this year\u2019s\u00a0Springwatch<\/a>, Packham warns that we are presiding over \u201can ecological apocalypse\u201d and Britain is increasingly\u00a0becoming \u201ca green and unpleasant land.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to The Guardian, Packham, who is a naturalist and broadcaster, is urging people to join him next month on\u00a0a<\/a>10-day<\/a>\u00a0\u201cbioblitz.\u201d\u00a0<\/a>This would involve visiting road verges, farmland, parks, allotments, and community nature reserves across the country to record what wildlife remains. The wildlife to be looked at would range from butterflies to bryophytes, linnets to lichens.\u00a0Next week, Britain will become the first country in the world to dedicate\u00a0a national week to helping swifts<\/a>. The naturalist hopes his bioblitz will showcase their expertise and inspire newcomers to begin to understand and get involved in nature. Packham also wants to focus on farmers. \u201cThere are a lot of good farmers out there and we are going to celebrate their work as well,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Packham claims that the British people have normalized a \u201cnational catastrophe\u201d and only see a wealth of wildlife in nature reserves, with the wider countryside completely devoid of any life. \u201cNature reserves are becoming natural art installations,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s just like looking at your favorite Constable or Rothko. We go there, muse over it, and feel good because we\u2019ve seen a bittern or some avocets or orchids. But on the journey home there\u2019s nothing \u2013 only wood pigeons and non-native pheasants and dead badgers on the side of the road. It\u2019s catastrophic and that\u2019s what we\u2019ve forgotten \u2013 our generation is presiding over an ecological apocalypse and we\u2019ve somehow or other normalized it,\u201d added Packham.<\/p>\n
