{"id":34905,"date":"2018-06-08T07:12:00","date_gmt":"2018-06-08T12:12:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=34905"},"modified":"2018-06-08T07:12:18","modified_gmt":"2018-06-08T12:12:18","slug":"remember-what-the-climate-war-is-about","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=34905","title":{"rendered":"Remember What the Climate War Is About"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"blog-header\">\n<h3 class=\"blog-title\"><a class=\"blog-title-link blog-link\" href=\"https:\/\/civilnotionblog.weebly.com\/home\/remember-what-the-climate-war-is-about\">Remember What the Climate War Is About<\/a><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"blog-content\">\n<p><a><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"galleryImageBorder wsite-image\" src=\"https:\/\/civilnotionblog.weebly.com\/uploads\/8\/7\/1\/6\/87160624\/published\/walt-kelly-pogo.jpg?1528408423\" alt=\"Picture\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"paragraph\">\n<p>Lately, I\u2019ve been wondering if the battles being fought to maintain federal energy and environment policies and programs are clouding the nation\u2019s collective understanding of what the war being waged against the Trump administration is really about?<\/p>\n<p>Before suggesting <strong>what <em>it<\/em><\/strong>\u2014the metaphorical war of which I write&#8211;<strong>should be about<\/strong>, let me say <strong><em>it is not<\/em><\/strong> <strong><em>about The Donald.<\/em><\/strong> At least, <em>it<\/em> is not only about him, much as he would probably like it to be. Trump is but the current poster boy for climate deniers. Granted he has a lot to do with the current disheveled state of federal climate affairs. The Big D, however, is merely the intellectually slavish embodiment of the nation\u2019s much more significant problem\u2014the lack of an integrated, stable, long-term <strong><em>energy and environment policy.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The problem pre-dates Trump. Although, <strong><span style=\"color: #5040ae;\">#President-Lie-Baby<\/span><\/strong> can truthfully claim credit for plumbing new depths of the <em>off-again<\/em> portion of the feast and famine cycle that characterizes federal clean energy and environmental programs and policies. His is not the first administration to dismiss clean energy technologies as fitting subsidiaries of the <em>Rube Goldberg Industrial Empire.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>As Trump is not the actual problem, he offers little hope of being the solution. When was the last time Congress\u2014any Congress\u2014enacted or even considered a national energy and environment policy? The answer is not in the lifetime of most anyone who might be reading this article.<\/p>\n<p>Federal decisionmakers have not considered and acted on <strong><em>energy <u>and<\/u> the environment<\/em><\/strong> in the context of an integrated national policy at least since the efforts that led to the creation of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gpo.gov\/fdsys\/pkg\/STATUTE-91\/pdf\/STATUTE-91-Pg565.pdf\">US Department of Energy in 1977<\/a>. Even then, the consideration of the environment was incidental to the energy portions of the organization effort.
